The Annapurna region, situated in central Nepal, is renowned for its popular trekking routes. This area is protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), established in 1992. The ACA encompasses the Annapurna Himalayan range and includes the world’s deepest valley, the Kali Gandaki River Valley. It is bordered by the arid alpine deserts of Mustang and Tibet (China) to the north. The Kali Gandaki River to the west, the Marsyandi Valley to the east, Pokhara valley to the south.

Dhaulagiri I (8,167m) lies just west of the Annapurnas, and these peaks are visible across the region on clear days. The world’s highest lake, Tilicho Lake (4,919m), is also located in the Annapurna Region.
